I remember the day we set up the shoot the day sky was overcast with smoke from the forest fires. Unfortunately we were not able to catch the golden rays as promised with any summer evening. Fortunately, we were able to find a little corner with a lot of colour.
Colour is so important to telling a story, and achieving a mood.
Normally I would gravitate to neutral coloured walls and background to isolate and focus on the subject. While there are advantages to doing that, it changes the mood entirely if you encase your subject with just a solid colour. Even the way the light reflects off the subject is completely different.
Being able to find something bright and happy that day was definitely a huge plus on a dreary, and eerily smokey day.
